Your Voice Is A Powerful Healer
Ever since I was little, I would spend hours listening to music. The songs would bring up dreams in me, they helped me to cry the tears that I held in, and I would feel uplifted, almost as if I was flying.

To this day, music has a profound impact on me, and really on all of us. It moves our internal waters, helps us to cry, to dance, to sing and to feel alive.
Songs connect people, they hold our hands in moments of grief and express our joy when our heart wants to burst open.
Music has played a vital role in mythology and is seen as a force of creation, having magical powers and bridging the world between humans and heaven.
And maybe for all of those reasons, sound has played such an important role in healing traditions throughout history.
I’ve just recorded a podcast on the different ways our ancestors have used sound, water and geometry to promote fertility, to enable healing, to access higher states of consciousness and to bridge the gap between heaven and earth.
The simplest way of using sound for healing is to use your own voice to balance your energy and emotions.
SOUND AS MEDICINE
The Daoists long understood that sound can influence our bodies and internal energy.
The connection between sound, the five elements and our internal organs appears in ancient Chinese medical texts. The Huangdi Neijing (Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon), compiled more than 2,000 years ago, describes correspondences between the the five phases of nature and the five organs.
Based on this system the Chinese pentatonic scale with 5 sound tones was created later.
Separate but in a way related to this the Six Healing Sounds were recorded during the Qin Dynasty, about 221 and 207 BC in ancient China.
Those sounds are found in nature and connect to each yin organ (+ San Jiao) and relax its energy and promote its positive emotional expression. They are combined with breath-work and also with movement.
These practices became part of the long tradition of Daoist and Qigong teachers working with breath, sound and the body.
You can try these healing sounds out in my latest podcast episode.
I take you through an exercise to work with the healing sounds for the kidneys and heart, which are traditionally associated with releasing fear and promoting joy.
In my upcoming course, Women Who Sing Themselves Home, we will explore further the different healing sounds together with their Qigong movements and feel the power of our own voice.
